The legacy and creativity of Chuck Jones is brought to life with the opening of The Chuck Jones Experience, an interactive exhibit at Circus Circus Las Vegas designed to "Educate, Inspire & Entertain" people of all ages. A four-time Academy Award-recipient, Jones created some of today's most beloved and enduring animated characters including Wile E. Coyote, Road Runner and Pepé le Pew among many others.
According to a recent press release, The Chuck Jones Experience includes
- Chuck Jones Center for Creativity Learning Center - A 1,000-square-foot learning center where teachers from the field of animation and the arts lead creative projects.
- Chuck Jones Movie Theatre - A 1930s-style movie theatre where you'll meet Jones via a short film introduced by one of his characters, the Connecticut Cat.
- Chuck Jones' Studio - A recreation of Jones' office where you'll see how he worked and discover what inspired him to create his beloved characters.
- How Do You Measure Up? Room - Learn how characters are developed and view original key drawings Jones drew during their creation.
- Animation Alley - A multimedia wall where animation pieces are on display from the permanent collection of the Chuck Jones Center for Creativity and other animation studios.
- Acme Workshop - Create sound effects and voice-overs for a Chuck Jones cartoon at the Chuck Jones Experience Foley Stage.
After seeing pictures and reading descriptions of The Chuck Jones Experience, I have a solid reason for visiting Las Vegas (beyond the usual reasons).

FX has been in the forefront of networks with quality TV shows for several years, with hits like Nip/Tuck, Rescue Me and now American Horror Story. After Archer premiered three seasons ago, it stepped into the arena of animated comedy. Now FX is building on that cartoon's success by pairing it with Unsupervised on Thursday nights. Unsupervised is at the opposite end of the spectrum from Archer in terms of the income bracket of the characters, the down home setting and subtle humor. However, Unsupervised is a refreshing and funny take on being a teenager. Read my full review of Unsupervised.

Archer returns at 10:00 p.m. ET on FX tonight for the third season. "The Man From Jupiter" kicks off with Archer's mother, Malory, dating screen legend Burt Reynolds, which sends him into a tantrum that involves kidnapping. Guest star Burt Reynolds is wonderful, willing to bask in his role as the ultimate male.
I've seen the first four episodes of the third season, and I was so grateful to have a screener with four episodes to devour at once because one episode at a time is just not enough Archer. This season we see more of Cheryl's billionaire life, Cyril becoming a field agent and Krieger's bitchin' van.
I am lucky enough not only to have seen four episodes worth of dirty banter, but also to have spoken to the man behind the voice of Archer: H. Jon Benjamin. In his interview he talks about improvising, his fashion sense and his hopes for Archer's future. Read the full interview with H. Jon Benjamin.

Homer Simpson has been a TV patriarch for over 20 years. He's been the proprietor of a garage pub, the host of a tennis court and, most memorably, a snow removal specialist. What else can you learn about Homer Simpson?

The new Napoleon Dynamite cartoon will premiere on Sunday, January 15, at 8:30 p.m. ET with a sweet lead-in from The Simpsons. Fans of the quirky feature film, which the animated series is based on, are curious how the 2D version will stack up against the live-action movie. You may be surprised to find out that writer and director Jared Hess thinks Napoleon and his friends should have been animated from the start. Read the full interview with Napoleon Dynamite's Jon Heder, Jared Hess and Mike Scully to find out more about how Napoleon has changed, but remained the same.

Bring 'em in, Adult Swim. Lock and load, Archer. To the Big Wheels, South Park! FOX is looking to elbow its way into late-night Nielsen Ratings with their own animated comedies.
Yesterday FOX announced the network has created a new unit to develop and produce an ambitious slate of original animated shorts and series to run both on-air and online. The late-night programming block will air Saturdays from 11:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. ET on FOX and will feature four new animated series per season starting in January 2013.
To run this new unit, FOX has inked an exclusive deal with Nick Weidenfeld, former head of program development for Adult Swim and executive producer of Childrens Hospital and The Boondocks. The network has also tapped producer Hend Baghdady (Warren The Ape, The Andy Milonakis Show) as the executive in charge of production for the new division.
The digital channel will feature 50 original short-form pieces per year, online windows of FOX animated shows and user-adapted content. It will create a unique opportunity for fans and up-and-coming talent to engage with professional FOX-curated content, which they could possibly turn into their own series. FOX will also use its expertise and cross-promotional power to nurture these new assets through this pipeline.
Really, I can't believe it took this long for one of the networks not only to copy the original formula for Adult Swim, but also steal the executives who created it. The good news for cartoon fans is perhaps we'll have more to choose from in the wee hours.

Back in the day TV shows almost never premiered in the winter, and if one did you knew the network was just burning off episodes of a show they weren't really committed to. Now, however, mid-season TV shows are common and frequently very successful. Keep your eyes peeled and TiVos warm for these upcoming mid-season premieres for cartoons.
