About Anime

Once upon a time, the land of Jushin was protected by a secret and powerful army known as the Amen Osas. Recruited by the King, the Amen Osas protected the land and its people from demons, zombies and evil dictators.

But now the King is dead and Jushin is in chaos... and only one Amen Osa still walks the land. This is the story of Munsu, the last Amen Osa... the last protector of the people.

Created by Youn In-wan, Blade of the Phantom Master: Shin Angyo Onshi is a full-length anime movie first released by ADV back in 2007 and now re-released by FUNimation on DVD.

It should be noted that the original manga was released both in South Korea and Japan and creators from the two countries collaborated to make the animated adaptation.

Looking back, we've seen quite a few anime firsts over the last ten years, not to mention some pretty ground-breaking titles that have pushed the anime envelope in ways we never imagined.

And while summing up the anime industry isn't as easy as picking a few favorite titles, those favorites do point to the overall evolution that anime has enjoyed over the last ten years.

So, which titles really blew us away during the 2000's? Here's my picks - let me know if you have any you'd like to add.

About Anime

The nominations are in for this year's Golden Globe awards but Hayao Miyazaki's Ponyo was nowhere to be seen in the Best Animated Feature Film category, nor was any other anime feature. Instead, nominees for this prestigious award include Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs, Coraline, Fantastic Mr. Fox, The Princess and the Frog and Up.

Co-produced by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the Golden Globe awards are perhaps one of the most notable award ceremonies in the entertainment industry and currently recognize achievements in 25 different categories.

Ponyo is a Studio Ghibli production and was released on August 14, 2009 in both the U.S. and Canada, where it opened at #9 on the box office charts. Earlier this year, Ponyo took five awards at the 8th Annual Tokyo Anime Awards and also won Animation of the Year at the 32nd Japan Academy Prize.
