About Action-Adventure Movies
Please don't sue me, Mr. Cruise. I'm only reporting on my interview with the people who are spoofing you. If you have any issues with it, please take it up with the filmmakers of Scary Movie 4 and actor Craig Bierko, who plays your character from War of the Worlds in their parody. Bierko actually defends Cruise and explains the line between what you can spoof and what is inappropriate. Find out how Mr. Serious Broadway became a buffoon for Scary Movie 4 in this interview. About Action-Adventure Movies
We only see a fleeting glimpse of Laurence Fishburne in the previews for Mission: Impossible 3. Even Fishburne himself wouldn’t tell us who he plays, “Of course it’s a big secret,” he teased.

The veteran actor did share his experience working with J.J. Abrams on his first feature film. “J J was great but I don’t even think of Mission Impossible as his first feature,” said Fishburne. “If you look at Lost, if you look at Alias, if you look at all that work. He’s involved in one hour drama. He’s doing basically a movie every week, every eight days, every 14 days, whatever it is. His script for Mission was really exciting and it’s going to surprise a lot of people how I think dark the movie is.”

Only a month to go for Mission: Impossible 3.

It may not be Death Wish but 9 to 5 serves up revenge with comedy and music and remains as vital today as ever. The office avengers return in the new DVD edition of 9 to 5 and the stars celebrated at a party with a musical performance by Dolly Parton herself.

Inside Wolfgang Puck’s The Annex on the top floor of the Hollywood and Highland shopping center, the party floor was decorated with office cubicles. Hired extras stood around in ‘80s style work suits and waiters served drinks in coffee mugs. Wine snobs would not approve, but I think I got a double glass of chardonnay in that baby.

The three stars of the film took the stage, looking fabulous in all their unique ways. Jane Fonda was Hollywood glamour with a gold suit and jewels. Lily Tomlin was intellectual sophistication with a pants suit. Dolly Parton of course was all our glamour with curve hugging white leather, her big blonde hair straitened out in modern style and bright teeth you could see from across the room.

At first the trio bantered and reminisced about outtakes you’ll see on the DVD and anecdotes they share in their group commentary track. You’ll find out how Lily Tomlin almost quit after the first day and Dolly Parton memorized the entire script, everybody’s lines.

Then the moment came to talk about the famous song. Parton demonstrated how she first demoed the title song, creating a beat by clacking her nails together. She said it only worked with fake nails, leading her to an obvious remark about her chest. She clacked until her fingers hurt, but we got to hear the chorus a capella. Then she sang full on with the karaoke track from the DVD.

Trying to force her costars into the act, Fonda and Tomlin nervously hummed backup but broke out into the chorus, which everybody knows. By the end, even the audience couldn’t resist the movements proving that the song and the film still rings true to any working stiff with a tired 9 to 5 job.

9 to 5: Sexist, Egotistical, Lying Hypocritical Bigot Edition will be available on DVD April 4.

Nobody expected Basic Instinct 2 to be a good film, because the motivations for making it were simply that it was cheaper than having a lawsuit with Sharon Stone. But we were expecting it to be so campy it was fun bad. They couldn't even deliver that. Find out how the filmmakers cheated the fans out of gratuitous sex, violence and other tawdry fun in my explicit review of Basic Instinct 2.

Following in the tradition of Toy Story 2 and Shrek 2, Ice Age The Meltdown serves up a CGI sequel even better than its predecessor. It may not have the depth and profundity of the Pixar and PDI entries but it is funnier and more exciting with even greater visual set pieces. Find out what Ice Age The Meltdown has to offer in my movie review. (Photo provided by 20th Century Fox)

About Action-Adventure Movies
In celebration of Slither, I recalled my favorite alien invasion movies of all time… of the ones I’ve seen of course. I probably missed a lot of the great ‘50s era, but I will say I never got into either version of The Thing. I was just never that surprised by who it possessed. And I never had the hots for The Day the Earth Stood Still because I felt distracted from the intellectual premise by the fact that they converted the alien to human form for budgetary reasons. I considered the Alien quadrilogy but ruled them out since those aliens never invaded any planet populated by anything other than specialy chosen colonists or scientists. So what's left? Find out inside.
