About Radio
Beginning moments after Glenn Beck's "Restoring Honor" rally finished at the Lincoln Memorial on Saturday the media began to propose conflicting statistics on how many people actually attended. The count has turned into a war, of sorts. Detractors of Beck are trying to prove how few people attended, Beck is trying to prove how many attended, and the media as a whole is all over the road with estimates. (Glenn Beck at the Lincoln Memorial, Photo: D.B. King)

Beck thought it might be upwards to 500,000. But, CBS News hired a company which conducted an estimate of the crowd by aerial photography. Airphotoslive.com said 87,000 plus or minus 9,000.

As Michael Calderone writes at news.yahoo.com: "Some media outlets played it safe with 'tens of thousands,' a count that's indisputable. Others went with 'hundreds of thousands.' Perhaps the only thing the media agreed on -- including this reporter on hand -- is that a very large number of people assembled to hear Beck speak."

An NBC news off-air political reporter sent a tweet quoting a National Parks Service official estimating 300,000 to 325,000 notes Calderone in his article.

About Radio
My critically acclaimed series, "The Wacky World of Radio" continues with this new addition: The Radio Webmaster. The position of "Webmaster" at radio stations is a relatively newer position radio stations were forced to hire people for when the Internet finally pushed them into it. (Graphic Credit: © Corey Deitz)

Beginning in the mid-1990s, radio companies were consolidating because of deregulation and this trend manifested itself in a lot of radio folks being fired. In radio, when you are out of a job it's also called "on the beach". I'm not sure why that phrase was chosen. Maybe because most of us in Radio are overweight and if you take us out of a studio we look like beached whales. Read full article. (Humor/Satire)

About Radio
Glenn Beck, the conservative radio and TV host, greeted a crowd today from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial numbering in the hundreds of thousands who came from across the country to take part in Beck's "Restoring Honor" rally. Near the end of the event, Beck announced it had raised over $5 million dollars for the Special Operations Warriors Foundation. (Glenn Beck Photo Credit: © Ted Axelrod/Fox News)

A number of speakers talked to the crowd including former Alaskan Governor, Sarah Palin, and Alveda Celeste King, niece of civil rights activist Martin Luther King, Jr. Beck's event occurred on the 47th anniversary and the same location of King's "I Have a Dream" speech.

Billed as a non-political event, the majority of the time was dedicated to homage to the United States military, honoring individual citizens, and stories of the America's founding fathers. At times, the event even seems to take on the feeling of a revival.

Meanwhile, radio host and activist, Al Sharpton held a "Reclaim the Dream" rally at another location in Washington, D.C. Sharpton told C-SPAN on Saturday that Beck's rally called for the "structural breakdown" of the U.S. government and "...such anti-government feelings do not serve the country's interests and contradict the legacy of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr," according to voanews.com. About Radio
Conservative radio and Fox News talk show host Glenn Beck has received a lot of criticism for letting the tears flow while on-the-air. Now comes word from nypost.com that Liberal radio and MSNBC talk show Ed Schultz recently had to wipe his eyes, too. Apparently, Schultz had a "meltdown" at 30 Rock after a phone quarrel about some on-air promos. (Screenshot: www.bigeddieradio.com)

"Ed was furious the network was running election-night promos and he wasn't in them," writes nypost.com. After hanging up the phone Schultz said "...and 'I'm going to torch this [bleep]ing place," then "...glared around the room and yelled, '[Bleep]ers!'"

Schultz was subsequently called into a meeting with management where he was scolded and warned of termination. Schultz "broke down crying" writes nypost.com.

About Radio
No, really. That's the thinking from Gerardine Botte, an engineer at Ohio University. In an interview with New Scientist magazine, Botte touted the power of urine as a potential fuel. The magazine quotes Botte as saying, "...an office building of 200-300 people would produce about 2Kw of power," according to cnews.canoe.ca.

It seems urea, the key ingredient in urine, includes four hydrogen atoms - twice that of water. So, it's easier to extract and synthesize hydrogen gas used in fuel cells.

New Scientist says Shanwen Tao from Heriot-Watt University in the U.K "...hopes to market his idea by producing small portable sources of energy that could power radios or phones on the go..."
